Andrew Emmerson

TV historian, author, editor & publisher

Andrew Emmerson is a writer and researcher on technology subjects and has been acutely aware of the fascination of radio and television since "Listening With Mother" and watching "The Flowerpot Men" at a very tender age during the early 1950s.

When he is not writing and broadcasting on the subject of today's high-tech wizardry, he enjoys discovering the history of the inventions which came before this, also restoring and reviving equipment based on these older technologies.

In addition he edits and publishes 405 Alive, the world's only magazine devoted to vintage television and also edits the magazine of the Telecommunications Heritage Group, of which he was founder. In the world of books he is the author of the Shire Album book on Old Telephones, edited their book on Phone Cards and is currently writing the book Old Television for them. His next book will be for Newnes-Butterworth, covering the collection and restoration of old radio and television sets.

He is a trustee of the Telecommunications Trust and a member of the Royal Television Society. He is also a partner in Golden Era Television Recreations, which acquires, restores and hires out period television equipment for film and TV companies.

Other interests include amateur radio and television, vintage transport preservation, local history investigation and film research.
