So you would like to have a killer website just like the ones you have seen on the Net? Good; but you don't know how to do it? Do not worry as help is at hand. Have you ever noticed how computer programmers and web designers think that the more features they manage to put into a program or website design, the better? Their technological minds think that the more they put into a program or page, the better their ability and capacity is demonstrated and their design will be more appreciated by visitors.
In reality this, of course, is not true. The nitty gritty reality of life is that, often, we cannot do what we like but we must do what it is required. And what people accessing websites require is good, useful information at high speed. Until a new system is developed, unfortunately graphics and speed don't go together. Designers must be respectful of visitors' time and wallets.The only sensible way to incorporate some useful graphics into a site is to give it on demand. In this way the graphics are there and if the punter asks for them, they will be delivered. Otherwise the pages should be complete and well balanced even if visitors decide not to loose minutes (and money) waiting the time necessary for the illustrations to download.
Somebody (Steve Jobs) once said that "simplicity is the ultimate sofistication". Programmers have great minds but they cannot understand that other people are not like them.
